WWYD - TTC and Abnormal smears

Ive had i think three abnormal smears in the last year. When the last one was taken a couple of weeks ago, I told the doctor we wanted to ttc DC2. She advised waiting to see what this result said , then going to see a gynae to investigate as you cant have smears when pg.

we were both presuming that this smear would be abnormal, but its just come back today as normal. Im happy obv but surprised.

im wondering if i should still go ahead and see the gynae anyway before ttc since i had so many abnormal smears. wwyd?

Hi
Generally it depends on what the grade of abnormality was, whether you needed any investigation/treatment. Usually you would be referred for investigation on the 3rd abnormal (if they are a mixture of borderline changes and/or mild dyskaryosis). Any report of high grade dyskaryosis would be a referral straight way.
The NHS screening programme guidelines have a section on pregnancy (page 46) which more relates to follow up and investigation of abnormal tests during pregnancy. The guidelines don't actually say that you can't have screening during pregnancy.
I suggest talking it over with your GP and they could seek advice from their local colposcopy unit if needed.
