how long is 'quite a while'? it sounds flu-ey to me, but probably a good idea to get some bloods taken at the GP to get to the bottom of it if it's lasting a long time.

Elephantscantdothetriathlon · 02/08/2012 10:44

Its lasted for 3 weeks so far. I put it down to moving house and all the stress involved.
Will phone gp's and get an appointment.

Best to see your GP, we're not doctors+ even those that are I'm sure would hesitate to diagnose without seeing you .

May well be stress or the fact you were/have been stressed (understandably ) with the move + now your body is
telling you relax + have a rest !

Elephantscantdothetriathlon · 02/08/2012 11:35

Have a appointment this afternoon. I know nobody would diagnose me here bossy but i wajted to know if it was somethkng i cak treat at home without a gp visit

Poor you Elephants, hope you can get an appointment soon so you can start to feel better. Could it be a peri-menopasual thing? - in which case there are many things your Dr can do to make you feel better.

In the meantime stay away from google, ok? Wink

Elephantscantdothetriathlon · 02/08/2012 12:12

I asked here instead of googling. Can the menopause start at 39?

OP posts:
Viviennemary · 02/08/2012 12:16

It could be a combination of things. Iron deficiency for the tiredness. It sounds though you are just completely overtired and stressed out. Hope you feel better soon. Food allergy? This is a very long shot. Gallstones?

WigGold · 02/08/2012 12:24

There was a long running thread about peri-menopause, some of the symptoms may or may not sound familiar to you.

My (10 year older) sister realised she was peri-menopausal at about 40 (although there didn't seem to be as much said about it then), I'm pretty sure the same is happening to me too at around the same age.

It might be worth mentioning it to the GP as it can be identified/ruled out by a blood test.

neverquitesure · 02/08/2012 12:42

Complete stab in the dark, but have you changed or started taking any different medications recently? I bought a different brand of antihistamine a while back and it took a few weeks to realise my mysterious (and worsening!) malaise was caused by a different active ingredient in the different brand of antihistamine. Hope you feel better soon.

Elephantscantdothetriathlon · 02/08/2012 13:18

Not changed any meds recently. Only meds i take are for low bp and none of my symptoms match the.sode effects.

Doctors in an.hour so i hope somethjng will.be.sorted!

Wow they were running early, the Gods are most definitely on your side Grin It's good that your GP is taking it seriously and also looking into other possible causes such as anaemia. Lemarch has some great advice and there is every chance that when the stress of the move abates a little and the quality of your sleep improves you may feel better. They do say that moving house puts you under as much physical and emotional stress as a bereavement and you wouldn't expect to bounce back from that overnight. I do hope you feel better soon.

Elephantscantdothetriathlon · 02/08/2012 20:52

They have suggested antidepressants and i will start some soon. Its all scary. Not what i thought i would hear!

OP posts:
neverquitesure · 02/08/2012 21:07

Aside from the scary-shock factor, are you happy with the diagnosis? Or, not happy exactly but does it explain your symptoms and how you were feeling? Also, have they told you how quickly the antidepressants are likely to start working?

Elephantscantdothetriathlon · 02/08/2012 21:57

It explains it all and has reassured me in a way. There is reason and it can be helped along. The tablets will take 2-3 weeks to work properly. I will start on a low dose and work up to what is needed fully.

Many physical ailments can cause depression too though. Are they checking your thyroid? Could be B12 anemia as well as iron deficiency anemia. Don't take a diagnosis of depression until they have checked all physical symptoms - joints aching, headaches, stomach ache (+constipation/digestive probs) tiredness, depression are all symptoms of underactive thyroid. How are your skin/hair/nails? Any dizziness, muffling of hearing, visual disturbance?

I had to go back 4 times being prescribed ADs after DS1 was born, only to be told it was PND. It wasn't, it was Hashimoto's thyroiditis.

Elephantscantdothetriathlon · 03/08/2012 07:26

Not checked my thyroid. Shall i pop in today and ask?

OP posts:
NarcolepsyQueen · 03/08/2012 08:58

Elephantscantdothetriathlon · 03/08/2012 16:46
