Has anyone done Slimming World?

(Hope this is in the right thread!)

Just wondering if any of you have done SW and if so, what you thought of it? I've done crazy crash diets before and put the weight back on but this time I'm looking for something more permanent. Didn't get on with the newest WW points system- didn't really lose.

Diets tricky as I like eating out, cooking with DP (and he hates 'diet' food) and sibling the odd bottle of wine! Yes, this is why I'm fat. :D Can I drink on SW?

Thanks for any opinions!

*SINKING the odd bottle of wine, of course!

Hi,

I started slimming world last week and have my first weigh in on tues (eek) I am loving it so far, you can eat loads on it.

There are two plans you can choose from but most folk go with the extra easy and the amount you can eat is fab! You can have between 5 and 10 syns a day, or save them up if you know you are going to be going out. you can drink but you have to count alcohol as a syn.

A few of my friends are on it and have done really well. One friend in particular has always been a big girl and has never been good with diets - she has now lost 4 stone in around 6 months Shock Smile

The diet is perfect if you like to cook, also your dp won't even realise he's eating 'diet food' as it really doesn't feel like it. chicken, steak, extra lean mince, pasta, rice, potatoes....all free food ( you can eat as much of it as you like) there's even slimming world chips which are delicious!!!

Sorry I have rambled a bit Blush

I have just got to my target weight with Slimming World having lost 3 stone since last October.

I found it really easy, the group is very supportive, you can eat a huge variety of food and I can say I have never been hungry.

As I got slimmer I have taken up running in the last 7 months and I feel fabulous.

It was the support element I needed as had lost 2 stone before going on my own.

Give it a go Grin

I loved SW. Lost a couple of stone o it before getting pregnant. Loads of flexibility, lots of unlimited food and you can have between 5-15 syns per day - basically stuff like chocolate, wine etc. A 125ml glass of wine is about 6 syns I think.

KurriotsOfFire · 29/07/2012 22:10

I've been contemplating doing this, Can anyone explain how it works - what sort of food etc. - is it calorie counted. kigh protein? low carb? - sorry if I'm being dim, but I seem to often hear about how you can eat a lot on SW, so how do you lose the weight. I think a diet where you can eat a lot would be good for me - I am always hungry Sad

Thanks all! I might try and find a meeting for this week.

I get on well with it as I just cannot be bothered to weigh everything. The only thing I find is that it's much easier when I have time to cook from scratch rather than relying on ready made sauces etc.

DollyDimps · 29/07/2012 23:00

Tbh I'm not really sure how it works when you can eat so much. My dp has been telling me over and over for the past week that he 'doesn't believe in it Hmm but a lot of my friends are proof that it does Grin and hopefully I can prove him wrong on Tuesday :D

The extra easy plan contains super free foods (Mostly all types of fruit and veg) free foods (this ranges from eggs, meat, fish, pasta) healthy extras a and b which is your dairy products like milk and cheese and your fibre products like high fibre cereal and bread, and your syns (sweets, condiments, alcohol etc)

Your free food and SuperFree food are things you can eat unlimited amounts of (as long as the fat has been cut off the meat, the pasta isn't pre-cooked etc) Your healthy extras and syns should be weighed.

I have planned my breakfast lunch and dinner tomorrow and out of the whole lot I'm only using 1 syn, I'm having fruit covered in natural yoghurt, a ham salad with two tbsp of lighter than light mayo (1 syn) and for tea I'm having spag bol!

If you buy bella magazine there's a coupon in there this week for free membership, worth a buy if you want to see what it's all about. They will explain it better than me that's for sure Grin

Springforward · 29/07/2012 23:51

I think it works on the basis that free foods are better at making you feel full/ satisfied for longer, so you don't get hungry and blow it?

kissmyheathenass · 30/07/2012 00:01

Sw is brilliant. I drink wine every night and still lose around 2lb a week. I usually have a large glass or two with dinner so between 8 and 15 syns. I don't really use syns on anything else though as I find easy to resist chocolate etc. Try it, it really does work and you never go hungry.

bumpybecky · 30/07/2012 00:03

I did it after dd3 and then again after ds (dc#4) lost 3 stone the first time and 2.5 stone the second time. SW works as long as you stick to the plan. If you get to target and start eating how you did before the weight will come back - mine has!

KurriotsOfFire · 30/07/2012 14:09

Thank you for the info Dolly and everyone Smile - and the tip about Bella magazine - I will get that. It sounds good, definitely worth ago - I have to lose weight for an operation, but it's been difficult so far, and I think going to a group would be more supportive than trying to do it on m own.

Tellybug - hope you find it good too Smile
