We've all been to the emergency doctors tonight, and been told that my ds (2) has got some sort of virus.
Hes been asleep for most of the day, and has been sick a few times. He hasnt kept any food down all day, until this evening when he had a small amount of pasta. Hes been keeping small amounts of juice down.
His temperature is high, being kept down with Calpol.
We've been told to make up a liquid for him (like dirolyte, SP?) which we'll start with him tomorrow.
Is there anything else we can do? All he wants all day is either sleep or to sit on my lap, huggin me (not easy as ive got a 5month dd).

alternate calpol w/nurofen - that can control the fever better sometimes. give him a tepid bath. sponge him w/a damp cloth.

how about making some ice cubes out of fruit juice? he might take those better than just plain liquids.

keep offering him liquids!

hope he feels 100% better tomorrow!

he jofe, I find tepid baths are not really reccommended for a wee on with a high temp. In some cases it can bring the temp down too quickely and cause more probs. Cool and sooth sheets or cold flannels on the head and wrists. stripped down with fans on. little sipps of fluid often.
cooled boiled water with tbspoon of fresh orange anda tiny pinch of salt if you have it to rehydtate.
If he does want to sit in your lap make sure you are as cool as you can be and try to wear cotton clothes so that your not putting his temp up more. I hope he feels better soon and you have some sleep tonight!

Sometimes a temperature isn't that bad, it is the bodys was of purging the baddies from the body :) But it's horrible to see them in so much pain. I go with a damp cloth on the forehead.
I've just got home from a day at the hospital with my wee man, he is 14months. The doc said his chest was full of mucus, and he has been vomiting up mucus too.. but when we got to the hosp for a chest x-ray his chest was clear and it was all coming from his throat (which 3 doctors in the past week have failed to check) Angry

Hope your little guy feels better soon xx

expatinscotland · 06/03/2006 21:55

i like the ice cubes b/c when she's ropey dd1 won't generally eat a whole lollie, but she will suck on a few ice cubes. the oj ones go down pretty well, made w/a pinch of salt.

it is AWFUL when they're ill! i hope he's better soon.
