How does one get one's hearing tested?

Have to finally admit after much moaning from my DH and kids and realising I am turning into my deaf old mIL, that I may have developed a hearing problem. Haven't a clue where to start. Do I see the GP or is it like opticians and you just march into a hearing aid shop and pay for it?

I noticed recently you can get your hearing tested in Specsavers. Just make an appointment. :)

I went to the GP, and got referred to audiology at the hospital.

There's an online hearing test and general info on the RNID site

Thanks folks.

Ooh, just done the RNID phone test and it said there was probably some hearing loss as to see GP.

tried my GP, he sent me off for a hearing test but was obviously inexpert at analysing the graph, but he said I was below the average esp in L ear and would probably need an aid in time. He didn't seem to know how much worse, or what the graph meant, or what might cause it, just that the graph was not the average shape, especialy at the HF end.

Went to the Specsavers in the high street, had a more thorough test and expanation. They also gave me a copy of the graph so if I have it tested again in future we can see how much it is deteriorating. They did not charge as they (presumably) expect I will go back and shower them with money one day.

BTW just did that online check, they said seems to be no loss (?) it asks for your name and email address and says it will "keep you informed" but has no opt-out box

I suppose they are going to bombard me with spam for the rest of my life Sad
