cars
shopping trolleys
other people
etc.

I do on a daily basis (even through leather gloves fgs) and I hate it.

I must be highly static or something.

Is there anything I can do to reduce it

I get shocks all the time, today I gave DH a kiss and we got a large shock, you can feel the bolt and hear it sometimes. I keep giving the kids bolts too.

pmsl!! Dh went to just grab my bum when I stood up from the sofa and he got a shock of my arse!! GrinGrin hehe pmsl!!!

I get them in House of Fraser when I have the buggy with me... REALLY bad ones. Last time I jumped a mile and screamed and got a lot of looks. It puts me off going in there.

DS must be sitting in a little buggy field of several thousand volts!

There's one shopping centre in Dublin which is known for this! Once I took ds1 there when he was 5 and noticed that his hair was all standing on end. I put my hand out and smoothed it out and a spark shot from me to him! He immediately moved 4 yards away and said "Don't touch me again, Mammy!"

I get shocks alot but I find if I touch things with my finger joint iyswim, then it's not as bad. I always touch the lift button at work with the joint of my index finger and it works Grin. I'm sure people must think i'm mad as I warily touch stuff in shops as if i'm expecting it to burn me, I find escalator rails the worst. Worse in wet weather too!

Oh god yes I get this and also tentatively touch things in shops, door handles etc, like a minor nutter.
Really hurts. Seems vv bad atm for no apparent reason.

moondog · 06/03/2006 22:32

Haha, yes CD when we lived in Moscow, the static was incredible.
I used to love torturing dh by rubbing my feet very fast on the carpet and then shuffling towards him, hands outstretched.
He would be openly screaming. Grin

Same thing now in Eastern Turkey.
Seems to be to do with low humidity.

misdee · 06/03/2006 22:35

its awful atm, i am getting shocks off everything. i spend the whole day trying not to touch things like my car door as i get in and out cos i mutter ouch as another spark flies.

Verso · 07/03/2006 06:47

Yes, I get this too, especially in the last week or so. Can it be affected by atmospheric pressure or something? We can't all be wearing the same boots/going to the same shops, can we? Wink

Thanks for the tip about touching things with your ring first. Will try that.

snowleopard - is that the croydon one? I used to hate that one for shocks.
To stop shocks off a buggy u need to attasch a thin metal chain so it drags along the ground, preventing excess build up of electric.
I had a science teacher who was VERY prone to shocks, so we learned quite a bit about it at school!
