Does this sound like shingles?

Currently 11wk preg, normally fit & well.
Last week had a funny episode, headache, exhausted (far more than normal preg), felt like I was coming down with something, then just got better after 2 days on my back with nothing to show for it.
Anyway, 4 days on I now have developed a really over-sensitive patch just under where my bra is and then around my ribs on the right side. Nothing to see but hyper-sensitivity is making it hard to bear clothes moving on it. It's getting worse over course of day. The pain feels like nerve pain and the only thing I cam think of is shingles but no rash?

does sound like it could be the start of shingles as you can get pain before the rash appears.

p.s. shingles should not affect the baby but you should still consult a GP

go to GP pronto so that they can prescribe ...antiviral I think it is ,but the earlier you take the better .

MotionOfTheOcean · 25/07/2012 21:59

I dont know if you cant take anti virals when pregnant,I know I couldnt when I had shingles when pregnant with ds,but as he is now 24 with a son of his own on the way, medicines might have moved ons since then.Hope you get some relief soon OP,it was painful.

Still, go to doctor asap. Doctor will be able to tell you whether it is or not.

I had I last year but I'm afraid I can't remember how it started. I was BFing so got antiviral cream rather than tablets.

I had it recently for the second time. Pain came before the rash in my case, - I'd go to the doctor as soon as possible. - Hard to describe the pain but I'd compare it to being stung repeatedly by nettles, - pain also comes in bursts as the nerves 'fire' off. Also just gently running my fingers over the area was v.painful - which sounds similar to what you are describing.

My rashes never looked anything like the gruesome pictures you get if you google - this time I only had two or three spots, but the pain was worse than the first time when I had much bigger rash.

Bugger :( well at least you spotted it early. Complications are less likely if it's discovered quickly.

HarlettOScara · 27/07/2012 09:40

Did the Dr give you antiviral tablets (aciclovir). I had shingles earlier this year when 18 weeks pg and Dr said that the risks of letting the virus run its course was greater than taking the antivirals. I has a very healthy baby girl 4 weeks ago so no ill effects from the tablets at all.

Hope you feel better soon. Shingles is rough :(
