...Can I have some advice please?

DD2 is two years old. Last week, Weds, she went off her food a bit and had mild diorrhea, Thurs she had a high temp that disappeard Friday. Very lethargic, didn't play much etc.

Saturady she perked up a bit for a while, eat some dinner. Sat night she was sick three times.

Yesterday she was being sick ALL morning, couldn't even keep water down (no temperature) Slept most of yesterday afternoon and night. (Was drinking at intervals though.)

Today she hasn't moved of sofa either, though is drinking and eat a bit of bread. She just gulped back a lot of juice then coughed and threw it back up. Now asleep again.

Should I take her to the doctors?? Am inclined to say no as she is drinking and that was the only time sh has been sick since yesterday lunchtime. I have never seen her this poorly though - she looks very pale with dark circles under her eyes.

My ds2 had it a couple of weeks ago - and, like you, I'de never seen him (or his big brother for that matter) so poorly. I think so long as she is keeping some fluid down then there really isn't much to be achieved by a trip to the GP. I wouldn't worry too much about her eating for now. It took ds2 4 or 5 days after he had stopped throwing up to really perk up - he had three days just lying on the settee, dozing.

I would keep her off anything dairy, keep giving her water and dilute apple juice (a lot of people recommened flat full-fat Coke to prevent dehydration). And with ds2 I tried the BRAT diet while he was recovering - 3 days of Bananas, Rice, Apples and Toast (boring but bland and gentle for empty tummies).

I hope she's feeling better soon, poor little mite - it's a really nasty bug.

our GP advice was a 24hr fast, nothing to eat or drink but water.
it definatly worked for our DS. He had no food for a nigh, a day, and another night. then just had wholemeal toast with manuka honey for a day. Took at least a week for his appetite to come back.

(by the way, 24hr fast is very hard with a toddler who keeps begging for some food and says is starving Sad but its worth it to get rid of the tummy bug. As someone on another thread said "you're feeding the bug not the child")

Thankyou SorenLOrenson and Gloworm.

She had nothing to eat yesterday or last night so I guess that woud have been her 24hr fast. She is just so so tired and sad looking, occassionally crying. She will not move off the sofa.

So if she is drinking, there is nothing the doctor can do?
