Pluirisy in pregnancy

I went on holiday to Tenerife at 20 weeks pregnant for a last break away before preparing for my new little baby. I picked up a cough and cold on second to last day and had difficulty breathing too. I thought it was just being pregnant and the heat (also had heatwave of 44 degrees!) I went to the doctors back at home who advised I had a chest infection so was given Amoxicillin Anti Biotics and Paraectomol and plenty fluids and rest. 2 days later I was in that much agony around my kidney area my husband rushed me into A & E to see the emeregncy doctor, he saw me straight away as I was in absolute agony and tears with the pain. He diognosed me with an Anti Bacterial Infection- Pluirisy. he gave me 15mg of Codeine, Paracetomol and an inhaler to help me breathe and again lenty fluids and rest. (Didnt do much apart from make me feel sick! and I couldnt take anti inflammatories coz I am pregnant) By this time my cough was vicious and everytime I coughed the pain was excrutiating in my chest, I was being sick and couldn't eat - I felt like I had been badly beaten up and my ribs were broken! I ended up ringing the NHS helpline who advised me to go back into hospital which I did - The performed an xray for fractured or broken ribs and also put me on the ECG monitor to check my heart. Again they dont take any chances when pregnant. I was sent home with 30mg of Codeine and told to continue with those and paracetomol and was bed bound and couldn't even twist my body or do the normal daily activites we do (i.e. bathing/toilet/blowing nose) without horrendous pains. I have never cried in pain so much! The pains had attacked all the left side of my body and I couldn't sit right, lay right or do anything without pain. ( I couldnt even blow my nose wothout the pain!) I had the bed to mysellf with 6 pillows behind me to support me as I coluldn't lay on either side and nor my back as I am pregnant. After a week off work I thought I was getting better as the pains were not not as severe and stabbing and painful - I took a walk outside for some fresh air and felt so much better.... I then started with a real nasty pain in the right side of my body after a meal and I thought I had an acid indigestion so I was drinking lots of gaviscon...What I didn't realise was that the pains had moved round my body and started to attack my right hand side!! Then stupid me thinking I would be OK went back into work..after getting in the car and driving to car BIG MISTAKE...It was absolute agony and I ended up floods of tears and could hardly move. I was sent home from work and back to the doctors..I was also worried it was more serious and I have a baby to think about too! The doctor said pluirisy pains are one of the worst pains you can experience and can take anything up to 10 weeks to properly heal! He gave me a sick note and strongly advised that I had REST (Bored or not I had to REST!) I a now in my 4th week and due back to the hospital today for tets to make sure it hasn't spread elsewhere, re xray for fractures and to have a full health check on the baby. My pains have just about eased up somewhat although still painful when I cough and sneeze but not to the extreme I have had. It is just time now that will heal my insides. I feel guilty for not being in work as I mentally feel OK but until these pains have gone then I am not allowed back in by warning off my GP -As the pains can all of a sudden re occur and I could make myself worse!! I have not lifted a finger in weeks and my lovely husband has done everything he possibly could around the house and to make me comfortable. I never in my life want to experience pain like this again it was absolute agony and the worst ever! (Labour should be a doddle in comparison!!) All I can advise if you do get this infection is take the advice and REST until you do feel 100% (not 80%) it will not do you any favours....As I found out!!! It is the worst ever pain you can possibly imagine and sorry to say it but you do think you are gonna die it is that bad!! I have never been so scared in all my life. Please take the advise and rest all you can no matter how bored you feel DO it!!! I just hope that my body is strong enough to have fought this off now and it is disappearing once and for all....I am only 37 years of age too so at my age I have age on my side...If you get this in an older person it can lead to Phnumonia and death. Look after yourself.
