My 3 year old daughter has had ear pain since Friday. She has already been to an out of hours doc who said she had an infection, has prescribed her Amoxil. We are giving her Calpol and Nurofen - and she is not improving. She cannot even move her head off the pillow, because she is in so much pain, even me sitting on the bed and making it move slightly makes her cry. This is a nightmare and we are not sure what to do as in 6 years of child rearing we have fortunately never had to deal with ear infections before!!!!

Is this normal? I am so worried about her especially as she can't move. She has literally been in the same position yesterday morning when we got back from docs. Sorry to rant on like a lunatic but am getting concerned now, and DH thinks a trip to A and E would be a waste of time and would upset her even more (especially as a doc has already seen her). Many thanks.....

IME amoxycillin works really fast on ear infections. (usually better within 24 hours). But my children's ear infections have been pretty mild. Perhaps give it until tomorrow to see if you can see an improvement? That is what I would do anyway, unless your dd says it is getting worse, in which case I would ring up the doc again.

I already rang NHS direct, they referred me back to my GP out of hours service - which I had already visited the night before. Any more advice welcome.
