My 97 year old grandmother is coming to the end of life. She has pneumonia, is deaf, blind, asthmatic and has in the past had a thrombosis. She's in a home. Visiting yesterday with my family, we noticed her foot was black and heavy, though not swollen, she described it herself as a "block of ice". She can't see the blackness herself, a blessing no doubt. My dad discussed this with the care staff and the palliative care team are being called in today. We've worried ourselves by googling which pulls up nothing but amputation. Surely they can't do this to someone so vulnerable? :-(
