OMDG dds big toe nail is hanging off....what do I do??????

She banged her big toe a couple of months back, it went black, and has only started to fade in the last 10 days, and now she has just come and shown me and it is half off, she does'nt seem to be in any pain. Do I just strap it up OR SHOULD i TAKE HER TO THE MEDICAL CENTRE???

No, the nail has just died. If you can cut it off to keep it neat, do that or will it just pull off?

The nail will grow back eventually.

I dropped a metal filing cabinet on my foot and my nail did exactly the same. It took a while to fall off but it didn't hurt.

But it is hanging off from the side IYKWIM.

Cut off as much as you can - the main risk is that she will catch the loose part on something and pull a bit which is still attached.

If you put a plaster round it she won't catch it and it will come right off in its own time.

Just cut off what you can so that she doesn't catch it and file any rough bits.

DD tripped over when she was 2 or 3 and the whole toe nail on her big toe cracked at the bottom. We lifted it off as it wasn't really attached to her toe. She had another nail underneath, it was really weird!

I remember when I was 3 I crushed my hand under a see-saw I had made with my sister and frieds. I was rushed to hospital with blood pouring from my hand and they just removed the nail and bandaged it up. Sure enough, new nails grew a few weeks later.

Panick over, have just soaked her foot in a bowl of warm water, to soften up the nail, then she just leaned forward and pulled off her own nail, and there is already a new nail growing underneath. Sorry for the panick, but I cant abide anything to do with nails.......gross
