I've broken my ankle. I'm in a cast and it's horrible. I've only had it on two hours and I've already freaked out about how itchy and claustrophobic it is. Actual had a panic attack. :(
I can't shower, I can't drive, I can't do bloody anything.
Anyone got any advice on how to cope with this cos it's doing my head right in.

I feel your pain!!! I had a broken ankle last year. I was actually shocked about how upset and useless it made me feel! All everyone could seem to go on about was how I could have six weeks off work but when you can't drive and are limited as to how far you can 'walk' I totally get your comment about feeling claustrophobic.. I had a big melt down with my DP when I wanted him to drive me to the local Asda to pick up some stuff. Sadly I had really been looking forward to getting out and doing something 'normal'. It was Sunday and he thought it didn't shut until 5 but even thinking that he fannied around all day and we didn't get there until 3.40 only to find it shut at 4. I managed to grab a few bits and sobbed in the car all the way home. He just couldn't understand how trapped I felt. I am very independent and don't rely on him for anything so it really hit me hard not having total control over my life.

Anyway is it a walking cast??? If so you can buy a sock like thing to put over your cast which means you can have showers and such like?? This is one such link but if you google you can find more.

Alternatively a binbag and some duct tape worked just as well.

You need to get friends to either to come and visit or better come and take you out if only for a bit of a drive otherwise you will get cabin fever.

If it isn't a walking cast it is a huge problem but isn't for ever and you need to focus on that. I got a walking cast after a week and it made a huge difference. You need to stock up on books, dvd, etc etc. My biggest issue was going to the toilet. we only have an upstairs loo. and when i couldn't walk I had to 'bum' shuffle everywhere' it was exhausting.
