Help me stop this damn itching!

Namechanged because I'm daft and embarrass easily :)

So, it seems I've got a thrush. I've never had it before, but I've been getting increasingly itchy for over a week, starting in the last few days of my period.

I'm still bf once or twice a day, so can't take tablets for it according to the lady in the pharmacy, but she gave me some cream. I've just read on the leaflet that it won't cure it and you need to also treat the internal infection. My questions are - Can I do that while bf? And can I treat myself and avoid a dreaded doctors visit about this? Incidentally, I've put one lot of cream on and so far hasn't made a blind bit of difference.

Feel a bit daft having to ask, but I've never experienced this before and it's driving me up the blinking wall!

I took tons of Canesten tablets when I was breastfeeding, to try to get rid of breast thrush. It's not the usual recommendation, which is why the pharmacy won't give it to you, but when I went to the GP, then they were happy to prescribe it. The only reason you can't get the tablets over the counter is that they have not been tested on pregnant people (obviously) so the safety can't be guaranteed. But the GP didn't seem to think they were remotely dangerous.
Alternatively, there might be things you can do with your diet to help... not sure, google it.

Try a tampon soaked in yogurt but do not leave it in all night change every few hours

Your gp might be able to offer more help.
I would get an appt as pharmacists advice has not helped. Gp may be able to prescribe something else
