I have found a hard pea sized lump on top right side of my head, under the hair, it is a bit tender, and has grown from when i first noticed it...does anyone know what it could be? Can't see the doctor till Monday.

TIA

My dh has quite a few of these on his head, he's been to his g.p. who said they were just cysts and they have grown slightly larger over time. He had one that just disappeared. A friend of the family also had them and opted to have them surgically removed, but they just grew back. All the same, still get yours checked out with your G.P. HTH Smile

I had a big one at the top of my head and it wasnt growing fast but it was starting to get in the way and grown almost to the height of the hair, had it removed about a year ago and is fine now but did get warned about having a bit of flappy skin and i didnt get it.

Nightynight · 03/03/2006 13:39

Ive got several of these, and will get them removed when they get big enough to show.

yes, i have one too. it's under my hair on the side of my head. for years it's stayed pea sized and just recently it seems to have grown. i also find it itchs at times, anyone else?
the g.p didn't seem concerned, said it was a cyst.

Enid · 03/03/2006 13:42

I have one too. Its called a Pilar Cyst.

gp said just leave it unless it gets infected (yuck)

pucca · 03/03/2006 13:44

Thanks for all the replies, this sounds yuck but when i first felt it i picked at it, and loads of gunge and blood came out, now its got bigger and it is really annoying me, it is itchy too (FF yes mine too)

Should i still go to GP? that is why i wanted to ask here first, so i didnt feel silly going to GP with a lump on my head and it to be nothing lol.

I had one removed because it was on the top RH side of my head, just where my head would lean against the car window (not while driving obv), and it hurt.

Worst thing was having the hair shaved off and then it grew back a bit funny.

Mercy · 04/03/2006 17:22

dh had one for years and years which continued to grow until it was becoming a bit obvious (but it was in his bald patch Grin)

It turned out to be a sebaceous cyst which was removed in a five minute operation with 1 or 2 stiches afterwards.

festiveface · 04/03/2006 17:27

hair shaved off! i didn't even think about that! i certainly don't want any hair shaved off my head. think i'll keep me lump.

JanH · 04/03/2006 20:22

Only a little bit, just where the doc had to make an incision to squeeeeeze the lovely cyst out. (It looked like fish roe ugh)

Or you could try DIY I spose? Grin

My dh had this, dr. said it was a fat lump and cut it out in the sugery, only tiny bit of hair removed. He had one in a little more sensitive area and went in for day surgery to have it removed, ouch!
