LLETZ and childbearing

I was told yesterday that I should have a LLETZ procedure carried out to remove abnormal cells following a recent smear test.

We don't have children yet and are currently trying to conceive. Have any of you had the procedure? How did you find it? Did you have any problems in subsequent pregnancies?

Thanks in advance

Hi there, I had LLETZ in 2009 and had a miscarriage in August 2009. This was my fault as I wasn't supposed to have sex for 6 weeks, although I never asked if the LLETZ treatment was the possible reason for the miscarriage.

I successfully conceived last year (March 2011) and went full term with no problems whatsoever and now have a beautiful baby girl :)

At my first midwife app, I did express my concern about the treatment i'd had 2 years prior and the midwife said that they remove such a tiny layer of cells, that in this day and age, women are not affected at all. Apparently years ago they would take a large amount of the cervix, a cone shape and women would miscarry late on in pregnancy or need a stitch in their cervix.

I'm sure you will be fine :) Obviously having the cells removed is very important! Hope this helps.

Sorry, should have said the LLETZ was in June 2009. Although I was very anxious, the procedure was uncomfortable, not painful.

Thanks LB. That's reassuring to hear.

I had a LLETZ in 2002 & had DS this year with no problems. I was monitored through pregnancy for incompetent cervix which did shorten but stayed at around 3cm.

Hope the procedure goes well Smile
