DC accidentally ate a bit of mouldy, grated cheddar cheese out of a packet. What should I do?

Tell them to look more closely next time! It won't hurt them.

RillaBlythe · 10/07/2012 17:19

Absolutely nothing? He will be fine.

YummyHoney · 10/07/2012 17:20

Smile yes, but can't say it now or DC will panic - I said it's OK, but worried.

Really? No e-coli?

Cheese is mainly mould anyway. He'll be rate.

usualsuspect · 10/07/2012 17:23

I just cut the mould off cheese, nothing to worry about.

MummyDoIt · 10/07/2012 17:24

Stilton is basically mouldy cheese. He'll be fine!

iklboo · 10/07/2012 17:25

He'll be fine. E-coli is a different bacteria strain to the one that turns cheese mouldy. Smile

YummyHoney · 10/07/2012 17:26

yes I know, but I read on the inernet that stilton and such-like are moulds grown in controlled conditions, and that it's not the same as mould growing in your fridge.

MrsMangoBiscuit · 10/07/2012 17:28

Is your fridge not at least loosely controlled? Grin I've eaten moldy cheese before, if it's fluffy I'll cut the offending bit off. Never had any problems from it.

SecondhandRose · 10/07/2012 17:29

Mould is fine on cheese, we pick it off bread too!

AdventuresWithVoles · 10/07/2012 17:58

I love moldy cheddar cheese :). I grew up nibbling mold off of cheese made from unpasteurised milk, too.

winnybella · 10/07/2012 18:11

No, there won't be e-coli on mouldy cheese, unless the cheese was contaminated with it in the production phase.

DC will be fine, nothing to worry about.

YummyHoney · 10/07/2012 18:12

Smile Thank you all.

It's penicillin (so my mum used to say)

cutegorilla · 10/07/2012 18:19

It was always called penicillin in our house too!

lessemin · 10/07/2012 23:02

Adventureswithmoles! Thats disgusting. Grin

coldpepper · 11/11/2016 13:17

I just ate quite a bit of mouldy cheddar cheese and now I am more than a little concerned. I do believe it's Penicillin but now I am beginning to have a head ache.

coldpepper · 11/11/2016 13:18

Any comments or advice?

ilovesooty · 11/11/2016 13:20

No. It's a zombie thread anyway.

Flisspaps · 11/11/2016 15:35

ilove Grin

Footle · 13/11/2016 19:22

I love eating the rind of proper cheddar. That can be a bit mouldy but it's still delicious. It's never affected me in anyway that I've noticed.
