Tonsillitis - GP/antibiotics or not?

I've got the beginning of tonsillitis (pus spot on my throat, sore throat, very tired) - should I go to the GP and ask for antibiotics or not? Last year I had two bouts six weeks apart - the second one was awful (GP thought I might have mumps my glands were so swollen afterwards!).

Now it's starting again I don't know what to do - I just desperately don't want it again or particularly a second time. It completely ruined our holiday last year - we're going away in three weeks time.

ARGH!

Oh and am I infectious?

I'm hoping you have had this seen to by now? I don't like taking antibiotics, but sometimes its the only way.

I would give it a few days of taking paracetamol and ibuprophen first. My dd has just got over tonsilitus with no abs. if you begin to feel worse rather than better after a bout 4 days I would then to GP.
