Is she in nappies? Has she been constipated recently? Two things occur to me: an anal fissure or a urinary tract infection. Personally, I'd be inclined to take her to the doctor.

I remember when I was very little, having UTIs (I had a kidney problem and was prone to them) and it often stung when I got into the bath, especially if there was soap in it already.

I don't know what the signs of a UTI are in a nappy-wearing baby, but giving a sign of distress while weeing could well be one. The doctor tests for a UTI by dipping a tester stick in a urine sample, so shouldn't be difficult to check. The only trouble is getting the sample! Would she sit on a potty?

Does anyone know the url for the NHS website?

When dd had a uti she was really off colour, high temperature and screamed constantly so I would think it is doubtful.

However a friend's dd at around 2, who was just toilet trained, shrieked when she weed (I remember because we were at a bday party at the time)and kept trying to hold it in instead. She had in fact scratched herself and got a small cut, like a paper cut, on her bits which would sting when she weed or probably also if sat in a bath. Could she have sat on something awkwardly or scratched herself. In friend's dd's case she plastered it with nappy cream and it healed within days.

hope she feels better soon,
