Colonoscopy prep - Picolax... any one had this?

Hi all, I know this isn't the best topic..

I have a colonoscopy tomorrow to investigate possible Polyps, it's likely I am clear I'm told it is best that they take a "look"!

I have been given two preparation's of Picolax..the first I took at 10.00 this morning. I was told the stay near a bathroom but also told I would likely be ok for a couple of hours.

I have to do a client at her home (hair) in an hour, I agreed and figured she has a loo so I will be OK and its only 5 mins away.

Will I be safe with that plan?, No feelings of anything yet??

Just want to be sure, any experiences?

Oh dear, I only just saw this - hope you are ok. I suspect you are very busy right now Grin

I was going to say NO don't go! Drink lots of clear fluids, stay very near the toilet. Have some sudocrem to hand. Good luck.

I have taken this for tests too. The test was fine but I would never ever take the prep again.

There is a well known forum post about Picolax. Just make sure to get the timings right.

I'm sure they will help fend off sore bott and yes, thanx, Sudocrem would have been a good idea too, not sure I dare go out again after the earlier experience!!! Blush OMG embarrassing!

I have never seen that link before ! Very funny.

Honestly, I could have the camera test again if I had to. Would rather not, but it was bearable and over quickly.

But never again to Picolax.

Oh you poor thing! Dare I ask what happened at your client's house?

swooosh · 06/07/2012 20:23

good luck with your scope and the rest of the night! I work in an Endoscopy unit and feel very sorry for those who have the prep. I always say to them when they arrive "well the worse bits over with!" Grin

Good luck!
My bowel doesn't work properly due to spinal injury, strong painkillers and long term laxatives.
I take multiple bowel meds (laxatives etc) daily and use a peristeen. And the picolax didn't work for me (but my bowels are extremely stubborn), but I know for most people it makes them go lots until they are empty. Stay near a bathroom. If was me I wouldn't go out just in case.

Well everything went well in the end, no problems found, actually the recurring wind was the only lasting after effect.. Smile

The only negative was the prep and that would have been OK if I hadn't been so dumb and gone out at a very critical time.... at least the embarrassing mishap happened on my own doorstep...lol Blush

Not the first time it has ever happened to me.. and thank goodness for Vanish! Grin

Hi all those having to take Picolax. I have read many horror stories about it,and was really worried yesterday as I had to take 2 sachets. The 1st one took 4 hours to work, and the second one took just over 3 hours! I had no cramps, felt quite ok, but when I had a feeling I needed to fart(sorry about that) I dashed to the loo - just as well!!! It was rather like weeing from the wrong place, lol. TIPS: when it gets to the point you feel you are passing glass or acid, dont wipe with anything, using a squeezy bottle filled with warm water, stand astride the loo and squirt! It cleans thoroughly if you have n o bidet, and prevents any residue burning the skin. Another thing I tried as I had n o vaseline or sudocreme was Astral. It was amazing how it soothed, and prevented any more soreness.I had heard it was good for babies bums, and although I am not a baby, Ive still got a bum, lol.
My procedure is at 4pm this afternoon, and I am still losing liquid, an d hope its ok when I go to the hospital.
I forgot to say that last night I put large sheets of plastic and towels on my bed, as I had read about some chap woke up in a huge puddle of poo.
Good luck to all, and I hope you dont find the prep, too bad.
