Is there any point in going to the doctor?

Ds (16m) has had a very chesty cough now for about 7 weeks. He is very phelgmy and is still coughing all day with it being worse at night and in the mornings. About every other day he is sick from coughing so much just after he has eaten.

He was seen by the doctor 2 weeks ago who said "there is a nasty cough going around" but this doesn't seem to be any better 7 weeks later.

Is it worth going back? Any suggestions?

Thanks Smile

Has he had chicken pox? dd (3) was like this a week before the spots appeared in February and I was told by doctor she had a chest infection and was given antibiotics.

I would go back if you are concerned.

7 weeks is a long time however (sorry misread that bit). I would go back!

I remember dd had a cough that lasted bloody months
WE did treat it with ventolin and it did shift it
If its loose rattly and not coming up freely then yes worth going back.

Beany - take him back! My friends DS was much the same. For the past 6 weeks he's been unwell, being sick from coughing etc. Doc said much the same about there being a cough going around. Friend got really fed up the other day and took him back (had to sit and wait for ages till he was seen) turns out he has bronchitis poor lamb. So yep, take him back.

7 weeks is DEFINITELY too long for something to linger - his body sounds like it could do with a bit of help!
