Had a c section 7 days ago and am bf. Developed mastitis yesterday so got antibiotics for it but today I am feverish, hot/cold and passed out in the bathroom.
My wound really hurts again like it did after the op and I have such bad pains in my tummy and bowels that it's like contractions all over again.
Feel like utter crap :(

Don't waste time posting on here. You have had major abdominal surgery, you already have an infection and now you have other symptoms.

Time to phone your GP or, if you feel really bad, call the paramedics.

Please treat this seriously. If you are unwell enough to pass out - you need to be checked over.

Midwife just been and thinks the antibiotics have caused the pains so to stop taking them.
She helped me latch dd on better to drain the affected breast and gave me a prescription for painkillers.
Feel a lot better since having some and more paracetamol.
Phew

If you are not significantly better by tomorrow then get a 2nd opinion

Surely a midwife shouldn't be telling you to stop taking antibiotics?!!!

LargeLatte · 02/07/2012 17:48

I think you've had some crap advice there. 7 days after my c-section I was readmitted with a womb infection. Granted I was screaming in agony rather than eating minstrels but the beginning of it felt like contractions just as you have described. And stopping a course of ABs part way through without seeing a dr is a receipe for disaster.

If you are feeling better then good for you, but if not make sure you make a fuss, and you may have to put up with irritating advice from MW / Dr that after pains can be a bit sore sometimes.

I had a nasty womb infection after c section. No midwife should tell you to ago mess given by doctorConfused
I would go back before it gets worse

I haven't actually seen the doctor he prescribed over the phone last night (we are v rural) and dh picked up the tablets.
Midwife looked at my boobs and said cos the tablets were making me feel so rotten to see if I could clear it up with feeding as she didn't think it was too bad.
She fixed my latch too which she thought was to blame and is coming back in the morning to review.
Apart from temperature up and down today the pains are gone thank god and I am loathed to take the tablets again in case it happens again. I've never felt anything like it, it was worse than labour pains.
I've got paracetamol and diclofenac but I will keep an eye on the symptoms and see if the mastitis improves with hot baths etc.
No wonder so few people bf!!

My point was it might not be mastitis - it could be a womb infection instead. I hope it's not. But don't assume the pains as caused by antibiotics. Midwife should've felt your tummy to see if womb shrinking - it doesn't shrink properly if there is infection.
