What's wrong with my nose?!!

Jux · 28/06/2012 16:45

It's not swollen. It's not bruised.

It feels like I've walked into a door or someone's given me a clout! It hurts to touch, even hurts to have my reading glasses (v lightweight) resting on it. It feels a bit stuffed up inside.

I haven't been clouted

I haven't walked into anything.

There is nothing to see.

I have no idea what's happened. But it jolly well HURTS!!

Any ideas?

Hayfever?

DS has just been back to GPs with his hayfever - and has been prescribed Beconase as his nose was so swollen on the inside.

Other than that????

Jux · 28/06/2012 19:54

I've not had hayfever before. Can you just suddenly get it when you're in your 50s?!

It's so tender on the outside and wearing my glasses is becoming more and more painful. Bother bother bother!!

Spot? Smile

winnybella · 28/06/2012 20:02

I had weird thing happen where if I wore my glasses for a day my nose would be tingling for a week afterwards Confused Could it be that the glasses are pressing on some sort of nerve?

Another thing: DP once got a boil inside his nose. Did you have a good feel inside?

headfairy · 28/06/2012 20:04

I have had on occasion a horrible boil like spot appear on the inside of my nose, and the first sign is my nose feels very bruised. Could it be your brewing some kind of nasty?

headfairy · 28/06/2012 20:04

you're

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 28/06/2012 20:07

Are they new glasses?

littleweed10 · 28/06/2012 20:12

I have awful sore/ Swollen inside of nose with hayfever. It is the worst few weeks for hayfever so you might just be susceptible?
Could be an infected area in there? Have had antibiotic cream in the past for that..

Jux · 28/06/2012 20:23

..... boil IN my nose??!!! That is truly scary! But all the pain is on the outside, down the bridge and the two sides.

Glasses are old - about 3 years.

My nose is a bit snuffly but not remotely runny. More like big hard bogey (TMI? Grin ) way, way back, not in nostrils.

Noticed it yesterday and it's got worse overnight and through the day. Not sure if it's beginning to feel a bit hot. Just picturing dd's face if I were to say "just feel my nose, would you darling". Grin

Should I take some Piriton?

littleweed10 · 28/06/2012 21:58

Well you could try a dose of anti histamine, it will tell you one way or another.
Got to say it does sound a bit like a big spot or boil brewing to make your nose so sore ... But I also get spots in my nose with hayfever.. Happy days!

DH says the side has swollen and that's why my glasses hurt so much. I took an ibuprofen and a paracetamol about an hour ago and it almost doesn't hurt any more. DH has also said it's a blind boil, he gets them a lot but I've never had any sort of boil in my life. I feel a bit sulky about that.

Thanks for your help, everyone; if it starts hurting again I'll try Piriton just to see.

More swollenq, and eyes smarting. Took Piriton to no effect. Some pressure in head.

(Just noting here so I remember, should I need doc at some point.)

Could be sinus infection if it feels stuffy & is painful to touch

CrikeyOHare · 29/06/2012 22:48

OH OH OH - OP!!!!!

This has happened to me three times.

Very painful nose, very slight swelling, no bruise or damage - just feeling exactly as if I've been punched.

In my case it starts on one side of my nose, moves across the bridge and ends up on the other side.

I've twice consulted practice nurses who just looked confused and said I must have bumped it without realising, but I knew I hadn't.

Third time it happened I went to the GP, and it's a sinus infection. There are, apparently small pockets across the nose that can get infected, but it's not all that common.

I bet if you press down (if you can bear to) on a sore bit you can feel a sinus crackle.

You'll be fine, it will go. Treat as you would any sinus infection.

Jux · 29/06/2012 23:10

Yes!!!!! I get a crackle! I noticed it this afternoon and wondered if it was damaged cartilege from having bashed myself really really hard without noticing (such a likely scenario!). Oh thank you!

Well done for spotting it too Devonmummy! (I'm a Devon mummy too.)

Off to the pharmacist tomorrow then.
