hot flushes

Hi am 53 and menopausal, so hot flushes are nothing new, my question is that 3 weeks ago I had a period, the first one in over a year, the flushes stopped it was wonderful, now that the period has gone I am even hotter, but not just in my neck and face as before, but all over just boiling hot, everywhere feel sticky, even while typing my hands are hot, I realise it is a hot day today, but this somehow feels different. I have a coil and have had a thrombosis so cannot have HRT, so have tried black cohosh, menopase and other similar things without success. I have an interview for a lovely little part time job tommorrow, but the way I am feeling want to cancel as I am so visibly red and sweaty. Has anyone else had this change after a period or found anything that stops these sweats. Thanks

I have heard that soya products (milk etc) can help.

I had reflexology for exactly this. GP initially and predictably said HRT. I said I want to think about it. I decided to 'go alternative' first before resorting to conventional treatment. Got in touch with my mums reflexologist who specialises in this area. Was truly nothing short of miraculous. Literally, within a couple of days, all symptoms vanished and I had a period (first one in months). I went back a second time and said she was a witch doctor! Told her it must be a coincidence! She said, yeah right, ok, think what you want! Said I was scared to have a second treatment, in case it changed anything and my symptoms returned. Anyway, had a second treatment and symptoms have never returned. I am as cynical as the next person but all I can say is, it worked for me. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend this person, who's in Cheshire by the way.

There is a menopause forum thingy on MN. A bit tumbleweed to be fair.
I'm the same age and this is my experience.
Over the last two years I've had spells of roughly 3 months with periods then 3 months without. I have a Merina coil. The hot flushes had got worse, several a day and night and all over as you describe. I know there is a period coming as they stop completely and then come back again when the periods stop.

To be honest I can't decide which is worse - permanent PMS or hot flushes. On balance I feel better without the periods. I am also wary of HRT but even more so of witch doctors Wink

Ha ha! Really not a witch doctor (you don't say). I was just so amazed at the impact it had that I said she must be practicing voodoo. Reflexology is hardly off the scale in terms of alternative practices. I've never had it before or since for anything else, so I'm not all weirdy beardy about these things.
