Kenalog injection for Hayfever-Help!

Our G.P surgery will no longer give the Kenalog injection for Hayfever. Does anyone know where we can get it from?

We asked if the G.P could do a private script but was refused so would travel to a private clinic but the only ones we have found so far are in London which is 4 hours away

Dh is suffering really badly and nothing is working. The tablets, nasal sprays and eye drops make absolutely no difference.

Any ideas?

I would try googling for private GP and see if there is someone else you could get a consult with?

But Kenalog is no longer widely used for hayfever TBH.

We have tried that. There is nothing locally we can find on the net.

Its very frustrating.

Ask for a recommendation from the GP for an allergy specialist you could see privately?

We have already tried our local Bupa and they wont do the hayfever injection.

The silly thing is that you can buy it on the net, but we would never risk that.

Dh might be annoying the crap out of me with his puffy face, nose bleeds and lying on the sofa with a flannel on his eyes but i dont want to bump him off quite yet

I have never heard anyone sneeze so many times in one burst then the bleeding starts

Did the GP say why Kenalog couldn't be given anymore? I have used it for the past 3 years and it's the only thing that has worked for me so I really sympathise.
I know it isn't popular anymore - phased out in late 70's in Australia. I've got some in the fridge if you get really desperate!!

They have said that high dose steroids are very dangerous and the benefits are out weighed by the bad!

Tell that to someone who's face has doubled in size, cant stop sneezing and bleeding and can barely open his eyes

He has always been bad with it but this is the first year that he has been working outside so the effects are enormous compared to previous years where we have been able to put the house on lockdown and he has worked indoors.

I know it's not ideal having a dose of steroid but if you are as ill with hay fever as you describe your husband is ( and that's how I get too - eventually asthma too) antihistamines etc just don't touch you. With Kenalog I get about 5 months relief of symptoms.

Wonder what they would give your husband if he presented at A&E? I'm not from UK so don't understand the NHS. Is it a NHS decision not to prescribe Kenalog or just your GP Practice?

That will be a 6 hour round trip. Lets hope they open at the weekend!

Pleased you have found somewhere. Does seem a bit mad though - if you have severe hay fever nothing else works - even oral steroids are useless. I had to buy a pack of three vials and only one was used - that's why I have left overs in the fridge ....see if you can either get a script for next year or take home the remainder .

I had them a few times in the past - fellow sufferer. The risks are significant and it's stuff like changes in bone mass hence why they'll only give you a few in your lifetime - I had mine during GCSEs and A-levels. When you're really suffering though it's frustrating knowing there's a solution and they won't provide if!
There's a sea life centre in Brum, maybe you could make a day of it?!

I had it a few times when younger but my GP refused to give it to me again - it can be really bad for your bones in the long term apparently.

Just a quick update.

DH went to the G.P yesterday who took one look at his swollen face and eyes and prescribed preds for him.

If they dont work then he will give him the injection

Its not ideal because of the side effects but the benefits will outweigh the horror of the hayfever!

I wish Drs realised hayfever isnt the odd annoying sneeze and sniffle, it really can be debillitating

Tootymaloo where in Birmingham can you get Kenalog?
I have been suffering over the past years too since I moved home and my new GPs won't do the injections. I have enquired at several GPs without success. Without the injection it's eye drops, nose drops, tablets, vit C, everything and hydrocortisone cream for my puffy red sore eyes. It's not nice, when I had my injection I was fine.
