How long for MRI scan results?

It's close to 3 weeks since my son had an MRI for a knee injury. I've just come off the phone to the consultant's secretary and been told it could be another 3 weeks. I was cut off before I could complain at the length of time.

My GP could see the results on "the system" after a couple of days but isn't confident at interpreting. Does 6 weeks seem normal to you? (The initial scan was done after 10 days as an emergency).

No in my experience this is too long. Results are normally interpreted within two weeks here, faster if as a result of an emergency, but I guess every pct is different. Has the consultant been away on holiday perhaps? Could your gp chase the mri report?

Thanks sparkle - that was the timescale I'm sure I was initially told by the consultant but the secretary said he would never have said that Confused.

GP surgery has already chased the results to no avail, its so frustrating.

Hope you get the results soon. Sometimes getting past the consultant's secretary to the consultant is the hardest battle.
