Calcium supplements a no-no?

Just wondering if anyone read a recent article (read it online, can't remember what site) saying studies have shown taking calcium supplements hardens the arteries, therefore raises the risk of heart attack when taken all the time?

I've taken them for a number of years to combat osteopenia and they've actually worked (big improvement on second scan). But after reading that, I'm a bit concerned...

Can anyone shed any light?

That would interest me too. I have been taking calcium supplements for four years due to thyroid surgery because without my calcium levels drop off the normal range. I read the same article - think it might have been on the bbc news site??

It's not a completely conclusive study. I think the general upshot of the advice was if you don't absolutely need them for medical reasons, improve your diet first. If this isn't an option you are probably better off keeping on them. I need them but I am "watching this space" intently ;).
