Failed root canal

I have been having trouble with a tooth for over 3 years I had a root canal and it still hurt like mad even after months.I changed dentist and he gave me antibiotics which helped a bit but 6 months later the top/filling fell out (last week)and he filed the rough edges down to stop it cutting my tongue and scheduled an extraction for 15 march.I have now been in agony with it all weekend living on painkillers and clove oil and I think it is infected The tooth is definitely not dead because if I tap it I am nearly in tears.I intend to gotomorrow as an emergency but a friend has told me that an infected tooth won't numb!and now I am terrifed of the pain Any experience of this?I am desperate to have it out but am frightened of feeling it

Just had the second part of my root canal done - one and a half hours with my mouth open - never thought that would be difficult for me!

Noddyholder - you've been suffering for three days now, and I would think you have to start seeing an improvement today. If you don't, I'd get an emergency dr. appointment, to sort out what painkillers can be prescribed. After all, he will understand what you can take with your medical history.

how are you nh?

noddyholder · 03/03/2006 14:52

I think it may be very slightly better although still hurting me I have been living on codeine for the last 2 days so I think I will need to lay off those to see if the pain is still there.I am absolutely knackered!

oh poor you Sad Glad you are seeing some improvement though. Will you have it extracted once the infection is gone?

noddyholder · 03/03/2006 16:16

As soon as it stops hurting when I put pressure on it they are taking it out

I can't even think about having mine extracted as it's my front one Sad
