Tooth abscess.

Dentist gave me antibiotics last week for an abscess with the plan to pull out the tooth today. I don't feel that the AB's have helped though (although I accept that I could be wrong).

Will the dentist still pull the tooth out if there's still traces of the abscess?

I just want it gone now! Haven't slept properly because of the pain!

I had this a few months ago. Worst pain I have ever been in (including uterine rupture in childbirth). My dentist was very against removing my tooth "just in case" and just because I have maternity exemption. After my course of ABs he x-rayed my tooth and gum to see if there was any trace of infection. There was a tiny trace. He left it a week more, and it was gone, so I had no dental treatment (other than x rays) in the end. That was in Feb. My tooth twinges from time to time and I am a bit more aware of it than my other teeth, but no more pain. I have a packet of antibiotics to start taking straight away if it does flare up again.

Maybe your dentist will x ray to see if the infection has cleared?

I dont think he will, I may be mistaken but I think the anaesthetic wont work as well on infection...you might need more antibiotics.Poor you, tooth pain is the pits.

How did it go ?

Loonytoonie · 22/06/2012 22:51

It came out! I was a wreck, a complete and utter quivering wreck, but fortunately, my lovely blonde, gentle, petite dentist with forearms like popeye popped it out in a jiffy.

I'm happily dosed up with codeine and paracetamol and a little bit of gin to speed things up Grin so all is happy.

Thanks for asking ginger; how lovely to be thought of! Smile
