12 month DS is refusing all food, how long before I worry?

I can't get DS2 to eat anything, he takes it in his mouth moves it around and spits it out and refuses everything else - even fromage frais! This has been going on since Wednesday.
He is unwell at the moment, he was put medicine for a chest infection yesterday and he's teething too. The thing is he's not drinking very much and isn't taking his normal amount of milk.
How long do I leave him like this before it's a problem. Do I need to think about vitamin drops or things like that.

We have just exactly the same thing. He went for a few days and then took bits and pieces. If you are still b/f he can get everything he needs from that until he is better. How old is he? Are his nappies still wet?

Im afraid I don't know but I hope he gets better soon x

He's 12 months old and is now on cows milk, which he only taking about half a pint of. His nappies are wet, but not very.

Unless he has a temperature I wouldn't worry too much at the moment as they will just go off their food from time to time, esp when they are unwell.

Someone suggested offering pureed food to ds. I had been mashing the food but not pureeing it. As soon as I did that, he wolfed it down, so that may be worth a go while he is teething. I would just keep offering water and keep an eye on him. You can always call NHS Direct or have a look at their website if you are concerned.

Hope he feels better soon.

He has been running a temp. but regular calpol has kept it under control. The pureed food is a good idea, I have just been mashing it so I'll give that a go.

Thanks for the advice.

He's still refusing everything, it's took all my effort to get about 10oz of milk down him all day and about the same of juice(cooled boiled water with fresh apple juice added).
I'm starting to see his energy level drop and he slept for 3 hrs at lunch time.

This is pretty normal. As long as he's still producing wet nappies, he's probably ok.

Juice is a very good idea at this point.

Have you tried making a smoothie? Blend up a banana with some milk and berries or plum or mango or similar? That might tempt him, and get a bit of nutrition into him ...

ooh that sounds like a good idea, I'll give that a shot. He likes fruit normally.

As long as he is drinking don't panic, he may have a sore throat and not feel like it, when he feels better he will eat. Babies will never starve themselves! Db has had bad cold with temp and I think a sore throat (I have one too Now) and hasn't felt like eating much I just serve up the meals and if he doesn't want them then thats it until the next meal/snack. If he is ill he will be sleeping lots, its not to do with lack of food
