30 weeks pregnant and I feel so ill - any ideas to help ease it?

I have come down with an awful cold and painful cough.

I not used to being ill so probably being a big baby about it.

I have spent most of the day in bed drinking lots of water and eating fruit.

I do not have a temp but constantly blowing nose, feeling wiped out both of these I can handle but not this nasty cough which gets worse when i try to rest.

Everytime I cough pain radiates across my chest and i feel lots of mucous cough up but i have to swallow it before it makes me vomit, its just snot and clear.

I keep retching after i sneeze.

i feel like crap and I know there is not much a pregnant person can take when ill.

any suggestions to help me cope with this?

i am always fit and healthy but this pregnancy i have constantly been ill with colds alike - why is this?

i eat a healthy diet, exercise and take a pregnanct supplement. i am worried my baby is suffering because of all these colds i keep catching.

there is vit c in my supplement - should i takre more?

I should think your baby is fine. The best bit about being all cosy in there!!

You could take paracetamol 6 hrly, no more than 4 doses in 24 hrs. Perfectly safe during pregnancy and may take away some of the aches and pains. Honey and lemon to soothe throat, homemade. menthol in hot water for nose. HTH

Have you not been following my 'flu diary' here on mumsnet? I am also 30 weeks pg.

I have had this and I dont want to alarm you but it has lasted for, wait for it, nearly 5 weeks

it mutates as well

The gp actually came out to me as I was too ill to go in and see him. He said antibiotics would be no good but he did give me a script for them anyway (amoxycillin).

Mine went: cold, sore throat, cough, SINUS PAIN (the worst bit), deafness. All accompanied by massive amounts of snot.

I still have it - I had been totally cold free up until this.

nothing helps except paracetamol and codeine to ease the pain, and steaming with added menthol crystals (thanks cod) to clear head a bit.

I have the utmost sympathy for you it is horrid.

I had a chest infection when pregnant with my second and the GP prescribed me antibiotics and said that it would be ok to take Benelyn. Go & see your GP on Monday and get sorted out.
Keep drinking lots of fluid and sleep as much as you can. You are probably run down & tired and therefore more susceptible (sp?) to bugs.

gp said that your immune system is compromised when pg as it is channelled to support the baby rather than you

Maybe try hot water and honey to help sooth your cough.

Hello all

Enid - feel for you too. I have been like this since XMAS!!! with no more than 3 days here and there where I felt well.

i had the blocked sinuses too in jan, i have been to see gp twice in this time and both times he presribed me antibiotics and a nasal spray which contains steroids. both time i got them i ended up not using them as i decided both times to give myself a few more days of steaming which works quite well and then both times i improved so never took prescription to chemist. i bet my gp will be cross with me if i go back again with the same problem abd not followed his advice. i just want to avoid medication if poss. i cant see how antibiotics can help colds. if i had a sore throat then i guess they would help.

I have been drinking lots of hot water, honey and lemon, gallons of water, fruit all day so why am i not getting better!!!!

so sick of feeling ill, i think i need to be taken to a hot country on holiday for a week of lazing in the warmth

sick of this crappy cold weather too...

moan moan moan
