Want to talk about braces for crooked teeth......

Have always hated my teeth, and am seriously considering having them straightened.

But I couldn't bear the huge metal 'traintrack' sort at this stage in life - would be too much like Miranda in Sex in the City!!

Has anyone had any braces as an adult?
How did you cope?
How long for?
Was it worth it?

I've heard about some transparent braces which are barely visible, and are replaced every few months and over time straighten your teeth - anyone know any more?

I had fixed braces between the ages of 18 and 20.
top and bottom, i got used to them tbh and they made my lips look fuller!
i had to go and have the wires tightened every 6 weeks and used to be in paion for 24 hours after but it did wear off, had to buy a special toothbrush with small head as teeth took longer to clean for obvious reasons!.
you can get couloured plates and clear ones now and i think you can get clear wires but all of these only avaliable privately.
im so glad i had it done as i have lovely straight teeth.
also after the brace is removed you have to wear a retainer for a bout a year.

A friend of mine (41) has braces at the moment - she's had them for over a year. They are the "traintrack" ones. I was in New York with her last year and someone we met there said you can get ones in the US that fit on the inside of the teeth so are practically invisible - don't know if they are available here yet but might be worth enquiring - maybe there are some American mums on here who might be able to give you further information

Am not recommending this practice, I don't know them, but they have a ggod idea of all your options.

I had traintracks a couple of years ago
Had them on for about 18 mths
Plastic was clear so they weren't that visible and in fact once I had them I then noticed lots of other people with them on

Met and married my DH with them on so they can't have looked too bad

Didn't have any pain issues with it
Cost about 3K
Best side effect was weight loss!!!

Someone I know currently has train tracks - but on the insides of her teeth. But bear in mind that your teeth hurt like buggery every time the tracks are tightened (roughly once every couple of months).
