Smear test - when during your menstrual cycle is the best time?

I need to book one but not sure when it should be (clearly not during your period) but is there a right time or a wrong time?

15 - 20 days after period and no sex for 3 days before.. According to the poster in docs waiting room....

Not sure about the sex bit. 24 hours?

It actually doesn't really matter - as long as you're not actively bleeding.

And avoiding sex for 24 hours before is preferable so that we're sampling the cervical cells and not your partner's sperm cells...

This is the official blurb but TBH as long as you come for your smear when you're called/due it isn't carved in stone!

Mid cycle is good but really anytime as long as your not on.
And if you use condoms the sex thing doesn't matter, and 3 days seems a bit excessive - its only so it isn't obsured by sperm so I would reckon just not the night before is fine.
