Stripping varicose veins... terrified... help?

I am due to have my right leg veins stripped in 10 days along with some exploratory surgery to see if the ovarian vein is also a problem. I am terrified. I have read all the blurb on what they do, but still don't realistically know what to expect afterwards. Sounds painful and I wonder how much I will be able to take care of my 3&4year old afterwards. Husband has taken a week off work to help, but has a bit of a track record of disappearing to go to work when I really need help, so a bit concerned about this too. Has anyone any experience of this and am I worrying uneccesarily (which I have a track record of!).

Everyone is different but I have had both legs done and it was ok. Painful for a few days so take painkillers even if you dont think you need them. Plenty of rest but also need to take gentle walks over weeks to get back to full strength.
Take any help offered!

Had mine done approx. 2 years ago. No exploratory surgery and local anaesthetic. Felt fine afterwards, bruising on leg was horrible tho' and I was afraid to look at it for a week, so got DH to check instead. I had 3 children to look after (8, 6 and 2) and I managed fine. If you are having GA, you will need time to recover from that. On the plus side, leg looks 100% better now, no more pain and I can wear short skirts again!

Thanks. Doesn't sound too bad. When you think about what they are doing (mistake #1) it sounds so brutal. I can't wait for the aching to be gone and not worry about the children constantly grabbing or knocking into them. Part of me wonders if I really need to do it, but I think that is just the part that is chicken. I may get a nights sleep now, so thanks guys.
