Is that a daft question?

I have had 5 days of cleaning up after everyone else and am trying to keep everything really clean and germ free. If I don't eat, (the sights are putting me off food anyway), will that help me avoid getting it if I have nothing iin my system or am I just delaying the inevitable?

I don't know, but it seems sensible. Keeping everything clean is an excellent idea, and taking a probiotic (Yakult type) for you and the rest of the family.

Poor you Thanks

We've go the same thing going on, you have my sympathies. Child number four went down last night, so I've been up every night for the past week now. I usually avoid it my being scrupulously clean, and washing everything in neat bleach! (including my hands Blush)

I think keeping everything clean and washing hands a lot will help more than avoiding food. You can still get d&v on an empty stomach, you will just have less energy to cope with it

Imnotaslimjim · 01/06/2012 08:19

Agree with PP's - keeping clean will prevent it more than not eating. All's that will do is make you weak and cranky.

You need some of the alcohol gel stuff to put on your hands, or spray dettox over them, especially up your fingernails. Not sure fasting will do any good. Hope you don't get it!

No point avoiding food - the bug's not in it it's in/out of your family members. Fasting will just make you tired and irritable.

Eating lightly will make it easier to clear it from your system faster if you do get it. But won't prevent completely, I find I can hardly eat when there's vomit about, anyway (blech). Ultra hygiene measures called for (says that as a slattern, but with a sicky child in the house at the moment!).

There's nothing more unpleasant and positively painful than wretching on an empty stomach and having nothing but stomach acid to bring up. I wouldn't recommend lowering your immune system by starving yourself - unless it's contaminated food causing it and you are avoiding said food!

How about drinking a bit of neat alcohol would that help ? Smile

rabbitstew · 01/06/2012 19:23

Interesting w snuck its way into my retching, there...

ChopstheDuck · 01/06/2012 20:22

Ooh I do rather like the idea of using alcohol to ward it off Grin

Have you got through today ok, ihatefishing? Mine are now all in bed thank goodness.
