12 wk jabs - Bad reaction - Options?

Hi,

My daughter had her second set of jabs last week actually at 16 weeks due to various appointments being cancelled etc. Anyway with the first set done at 11 weeks she was absolutely fine however this time she had a fever for 3 days, cried almost constantly for 3 days and is still not herself, rather quiet and seems much more tired than usual. I am sure it's the jabs as she was absolutely fine up until that day. I had thought the hot weather may have contributed to it although today it is cooler and she is no better.

Anyway what i want to know is firstly if anyone else has seen this? I was told by the Dr it 'can't be the jabs' if the side effects last longer than a day which i think is absolute rubbish. I still want to have her vaccinated but wonder can i do the next (third) set in more than 4 weeks when she is a bit bigger (she is a small baby) and also can they be separated out at all?

Thanks

it could well be a combination between shots and heat. In any case, you do not need to do all three shots in a day. You could very well only do the next 5 in 1, see how she does, then do the next a couple of weeks later and so on. It is a bit more of a scheduling hassle, but on the other hand, it is known (and it says so in the package insert) that the Pneumococcal vaccine, when given together with a DTaP-containing vaccine (like the 5 in 1 is), generates more fever... Splitting them does make sense, just from that perspective and certainly since she did so poorly after this round.

Let us know how your daughter does - she should really be better after 48 hours or so and if she continues to be ill, she may have picked up a bug when she got her shots.
