I am a 42 year old woman with a long history of cervical bleeding. I have had bleeding after sex for years on and off too. Last year i was admitted to a clinic to have a D&C and a Polyp was found and removed with 7cm cavity. Before the treatment i was origonally taken in for post coital bleeding and breakthrough. A month before the treatment i bled daily for a month - heavy. It was then discovered that the Poly was causing the daily bleed and also he did the D&C to clean up any issues which maybe causing the breakthrough too. Oh and along with taking the end of my cervix off due to an Ectropian (post coital problem). ANYWAY...since this surgery my periods for the first time in years have been regular to the day and only last at least 3-4 days instead of the usual 7+. Last month that changed..i had my normal period 3 days then a week later i bled again for another few days, and now nothing again. I was due to have a coil fitted but told doc about bleeding and they sent me for a scan which today revealed another Poly (looked like a big one to me). I have to be referred back to the gyne again. Last time he said that due to all my problems a Hysterectomy may be on the list of options. Do i seriously think about this and ask him to go ahead and erradicate the issues once and for all or do i just have this poly removed again? I have a 10 year old son, no chance of another child as im single, and slightly past it :-)

Well I'm only a GP, not a gynaecologist but I'd have thought the obvious option would be a Mirena coil (controls the irregular hormonal bleeding) put in by a gynaecologist who can remove the polyp as part of the same procedure. Have they offered this? If not, there may very well be a good reason but it would be worth asking next time.

HI, thanks for the reply. THe doc was going to fit the coil but at the appt i had said that i have had breakthough so she wouldnt fit it and sent me for a scan. At the last surgery for Polyp removal he was going to fit the Mirena Coil but i said not to bother (stupidly) cause i have been single for a while and didnt see the need..not thinking it would sort out the periods! So i am just waiting for a reply from my doc to see if she will refer me back to him. Why is the breakthrough just like a normal period tho...still painfull, sometimes it almost makes me short of breath its so uncomfortable feels like i am being tied in knots.
