Chest been getting steadily worse of the past couple of weeks, going to try and get an appointment tomorrow,
I have a really painful chest aching all the time and sharp pain if I breath deeply, cough or sneeze.
I don't have a cough but am short of breath and feel run down.
Have self diagnosed pleurisy :) anyone had this?

Yes and it hurts like hell! Sounds like you do need to see a dr ASAP.

LargeGlassofRed · 28/05/2012 21:21

Thanks fengirl, it does hurt like hell I actually cried when I sneezed earlier.

I had this a couple of yrs ago - but weirdly without the pain. I had lots of AB and steroids - and was just shattered all the time....so it's important to have lots of rest. I run quite a bit and had to stop for around 4 mths....I hope you feel better soon - but get yourself down to the doctor asap.

IShallWearMidnight · 28/05/2012 21:35

I currently have pleurisy which has caused an allergic reaction causing asthma - not only do I have pain behind my shoulder made, I also can't breathe.
Was diagnosed at the hospital by the doctor pressing down on my upper chest at various places until I yelped Shock.

Afaik, pleurisy follows on from an infection ( in my case a cough which turned into tracheitis), most usually pneumonia.

Get yourself to the GP, heavy duty antibiotics should sort it out, but they may decide to do blood tests/chest X-ray to make sure it's nothing more serious.

And take things easy, it's a few weeks recovery Sad

LargeGlassofRed · 28/05/2012 21:36

Thanks shivs, I had pneomonia 6 weeks ago too, so maybe related to that

Grr, fat fingers, small phone... That was shoulder blade obviously

LargeGlassofRed · 28/05/2012 21:48

Thanks Ishall, will do battle with the dr receptionist in the morning

"shortness of breath" worked better for me than "pain in my back" Wink, I got appointments within an hour twice for that. Annoyingly the day I ended up rushing to hospital, they made me wait till mid afternoon to see the GP

LargeGlassofRed · 28/05/2012 22:19

Will try that thanks, just hope I manage to sleep tonight , shattered

You really do need the doctor asap.I have just had pneumonia two weeks ago and had pains when I breathed in-was told could be a sign of pleurisy [fortunately it wasnt].
You need abx and lots of rest-get the gp to do a home visit [mine does] or contact ooh doc or even A&E if it gets much worse.

LargeGlassofRed · 29/05/2012 08:40

Grrr no appointments till Thursday, will have to try the nhs access place.

OP posts:
Shivs1974 · 29/05/2012 08:47

Oh poor you....just not what you need Sad. Hope NHs access place isn't too far away...did GP receptionist offer you any cancellations? Could you camp out at your doctors today??

LargeGlassofRed · 29/05/2012 08:51

No cancelations but said I could ring back tomorrow and try for a phone appointment, managed to get an appointment at access centre for 11.15 but have a complicated medical history so not ideal.

Hope you have seen someone by now.

LargeGlassofRed · 29/05/2012 20:11

Thanks Grey lady, went to walk in place, they sent me to a and e was admitted and checked over, have decreased air entry on right side and high white blood count, chest X-ray didn't show any new changes so they thing it's pain left over from the pneomonia, have need given pain killers and told to go back if pain gets worse or I get a tempreture.
Was back home five minutes and dt1 hurt himself on the trampoline, and now won't walk on his foot! Never rain but it pours!
