I need to exercise & lose about a stone

I have 2 children (4 and 20 mths)
work part-time
H left in Nov

so....cancelling gym membership as I just cant justify it

I have some exercise videos but wondered whether buying an exercise bike would be better.

am used to exercise classes or complete gym workout and just feel a bike might not be good enough for fat burning

Eliptical walkers are pretty good all round body workers! i got one before xmas and BLIMEY it nearly killed me!!!! lol
I also found Yoga to be great, and although it doesnt look like ur doin a lot,it toned me up far more than when i went to the gym.
Hope this has been some use,i find it hard to fit in exercise time with my 3yr old. Ive just started swimming too which (if youve got the time) is really good!
good luck :-)

Ooh get a trampette - 20 minutes a night. Music on a nd bounce/jog away. great for fat burning. I love mine.

I have bought a yoga dvd as felt it might help me relax and de-stress

might try a trampette thingy - needs to be fairly easy to store so that could be the thing

thanks

Hi Miggins. How are you? I have this problem too. I'm up and out the door by 7:00am and return at 7:00am. See the kids until they go to bed at 8:00. So my only way to exercise is to to do it in the home after they go to bed. So far I've bought 3 videos, one reebok step, one swish new pair of trainers, 3 pairs of socks and.... I have yet to find the energy to work out at 8:00. I really must get on it though!!

What is a trampette?

carlk · 22/02/2006 08:19

Dance with your babies wonderfull excercise and they love it

Just to add to my eliptical walker thing,im currently on the (ever so brave) lookout for some inline skates that i like cos i live near the beach and theres a lovely long prominade to skate up and down!! not too sure that i'll be brave enough tho to achally do the deed!! lol
Uwilla-a trampette is one of those little round trampolines that u find in the exercise things in the likes of the argos catalogue, meant to be pretty good so ive heard, but i can only imagine that when if i got on one it would be like off the Nutty Professor when he gets on one and it touches the floor, never to move again!!! LOL p

I used to have an exercise bike, great for hanging the washing on!

Seriously, it depends very much on what your motivation is like. With an exercise video, somebody else is telling you how many reps to do and when you can stop (and if you get a good one- I recommend Davina or Nell McAndrew- you are guaranteed a good work out). If you use equipment at home, you are your own boss and might be tempted to stop, not push yourself as far as you could. Plus, there's not a lot of variety with just an exercise bike. Why not do both and alternate. Plus, prolonged use of an exercise bike might not be so good for your knees.

Good luck with it!

mistressmiggins · 22/02/2006 14:16

my friend at work is lending me her trampette to try out so if i like it, I can buy one

I think I will try the videos as I like to be pushed

another friend has a treadmill but cost them a fortune - they are very disciplined and run every other night

so frustrating not being able to go to the gym when Ive been used to it....

I'm used to the gym too but have cancelled recently, i would get a fat burn dvd like Rosemary connelly, where you can do all your fat burn exercises and toning all in one video. I have been using Charlie Brookes dvd its really good, a bit boring in parts (i find the music in it crap) but overall a goodworkout, or how about Rosemary's new video i think its called 7 day plan you do about 20mins a day, a friend has it says its really good

loujay · 22/02/2006 14:44

Hi,
I have been doing the new Davina video which is 3 different sorts of work out 3 times a week for 30 minutes each one.Really good and exhausting, but only for 30 mins which I do when my DD has gone to bed
