ds 16,has been suffering joint pains, starting in September 2010. He was tested for a umber of things including lymes disease. Nothing was found. The level of pain has gone up and down. Originally the pain was in his knees then ankles, later hips and shoulders. The consultant diagnosed reactive arthritis, not sure what he is reacting to, and said it would burn out after 3 months. 6 months later (March 2011) he went snowboarding and was given steroids just for the week. Pain goes up and down but is getting generally worse. He was an excellent duathalon sportsman but stopped running about a year ago.

What I think he needs is a second opinion or some further strategies. It seems ver sad that in the prime of his life he is unable to participate fully.

We don't mind where in the country. Tia

www.midstaffs.nhs.uk/For-GP-s/Consultants/Rheumatology/Dr--Tom-Sheeran.aspx I used to work with this doctor. He's brilliant.

The best person to ask might be the current consultant, they should know the best person to ask for a second opinion, which you should be able to get on the NHS.

Thanks LadyS. Hive of Bees, we live overseas and will be coming back for the summer months, so will need to go privately. I can ask his current consultant however I think I'm looking for someone that she maybe isnt friends with. It appears very much here that you are always recomended "my friend", which maybe great but on the other hand it might be my friend and not the best person IYSWIM.
