About 8 years ago, I was knocked for six by Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/ME. It took me off work, limited my activity, and was utterly awful. Thankfully, after almost a year of careful eating, exercise plans and increasing activity incrementally, I got over the worst of it, and moved on with mmy life. The only time I even remember that I have it is when I'm ill, and the primary symptom is feeling run over by a steamroller.

The last few weeks, I have been struggling with a cough I couldn't shake. The cough is now gone, but in its place is sheer exhaustion, poor sleeping, really bad stomach pains and bloating, terrible reactions to alcohol, and a general inability to remember my own name.

It's been such a long time since I suffered properly that CFS didn't even cross my mind. It's only now that I re-checked the symptoms, and I tick virtually every box... Sad

Not certain anyone can really help (although, if you have advice on how you handled it, I'd love to hear it!), but I just wanted to write it down and have a little pity party...

Hello,
I've had ME symptoms since I had MRSA septacaemia and C diff after a spine operation.

I thought you had to have the symptoms for at least 6 months.

Also how long have you had cough? You could still be recovering from this, or even another virus on top of it.

Re reading what you wrote, you say you got over the worst of it?
Have you had it constantly for 8 years or did it go away?

Reeny I had it constantly for about 9 months after diagnosis in March 2004 (and had had symptoms for ages before then). It mostly went away in Nov/Dec 2004, but rears its head when I get poorly (so no matter what virus/infection I have had in the last few years, I always get absolutely exhausted and suffer with muscular pain).

This time, the symptoms have been around for about 2 months, but have become quite severe over the last couple of weeks.
