Eyelid twitching..?

I have a muscle twitching in my eyelid - intermittently, but quite often, in patches, several times an hour, most hours.

This has been going on for 4 or 5 days now and seems to be getting worse.

It's not noticeable to anyone else unless I explain and they stand very close and look right in my eye. But it's extremely disconcerting and distracting to me.

So, do I need to make appointment with GP or optician?

I have been to both about this-went to gp first they said go to optician. Worth getting eyes tested but my optician says it is due to me getting older and tiredness, sleep is the the cure.

It usually happens if you haven't slept well & are stressed. I've had it for a few days when I've slept badly then it just stops by itself.

I've had it since I was a teen. It's due to being tired.

I had it years ago after withdrawing from anti depressants .

I occasionally get this, particularly if I am feeling stressed out.

I had this for several weeks earlier on this year - it coincided with an office move at work which has been very stressful.

That's gone and I now have a tingling in my head - could that be stress as well?

roisin · 20/05/2012 21:47

I don't feel stressed at all really; am very calm and content. Sleep generally ok too, though not last two nights as dh away atm.

May phone opticians tomorrow to see if I can get an appointment next weekend.

Thanks for the advice all.
