TMI Have got an appointment for a flexible sigmoidoscopy at 1:45 and am supposed to do home enema ( they supplied) 2 hours before. Have had 2 bm already this am, last at 11:45 so do I still need the enema?
Any ideas? I was thinking to give it 20 mins and do it just in case.
Help

Yes do it anyway.

You need the lower bowel lovely and empty and clean so they can get a good view. Is it a micro enema? Like a sample size of toothpaste size tube?

They also do bigger enemas which are about 180ml of fluid but I suspect they would be very difficult to self administer. (I'm a nurse rather than a poo troll Grin )

More like the size of a normal big tube of toothpaste
So shall I do it now? Have to leave I 40 mins.
Thank you

It's 133ml.

A phosphate enema then i expect. You need to try to roll down the end of the tube as you squeeze it in, then lie on your side nice and still for as long as you can.

Yes, use it. I have had a flexi sig, you want them to be able to see what they are looking for.

MoaningMinnieRisesAgain · 18/05/2012 12:19

I had the oral prep and it was bloody dreadful Grin The flexi sig was a piece of piss in comparison.

It's like you had a yogurt pot that you have shaken the yogurt out of, it's basically empty but you want to rinse it out for the sides to be clean terrible analogy

I had given plenty of enemas Just one of those things. Hope your test goes ok.

The flexi sig went ok, thanks for your help. He said it looks ok but they took about 6 random samples to check for microscopic colitis.
Should get the results in 2-3 weeks.
