Ears under the water in the bath - not a good idea?

Ds is 6 months now and loves his bath. He has discovered that if he puts his head back under the water and sings, it sounds funny...

However I read something the other day about glue ear and it said about making sure water doesn't get into the ear canal, and it did occur to me that it may not be a good idea to let his ears fill with water on a daily basis (obviously I try to drain any water out by tipping his head but I daresay there is a residue).

So do I let him continue - he just loves doing it - or may this cause/introduce problems/infections in the future? Any advice/experiences welcome.

Ah but surely babies who swim every week fill their tiny ears with chlorine and bacteria soup, Miaou? and they don't get glue ear?
Dd gets ear infections and we are told not to let water in her ears when the eardrums are healing from perforation. Which is entirely understandable. But I think a healthy nipper with no ear problems should be allowed to lie back and yodel!

miaou we had a similar thing! dp would always lie ds back in the bath every night
i told him not too as i didn;t think it would be good for his ears, so he stopped.

ever since ds has had very waxy ears! dp reckons that all the time he was dunking him the warm water was cleaning his ears out and now it isn;t... but i am a bit worried that it is something more sinister1

Oh that's interesting thanks. I did wonder whether the glue ear thing was "having got it, don't put ears under the water" rather than "prevent it by not putting ears under the water" - I'm terrible for misremembering things, they go in one ear and out the other (no glue in 'em, see )

I won't spoil his fun then!!
