One less crease in his hand

The doctor has referred my baby to hospital for a check up because he has one less crease in his one hand than the other. When I asked him what it could mean he said probably nothing but it could indicate a 'syndrome' of some sort. I've heard of creases in the legs causing problems but not in the hand. Any one any ideas what he's talking about?

could he mean

this?

A single crease that runs across the palm of the hand can be associated with Downs, however perfectly healthy children can also have this.

Ah. I see. The doctor couldn't find anything else wrong with him and he seems to be 'developing' normally so I don't think I will worry too much.

I have this in my left hand. dd has it in her right hand. Ds has it in both hands. We're all pretty normal!!!

Tony Blair also has it - not sure if that's reassuring or not!
