Scared that DH has lung cancer

NiceAcorn · 16/05/2012 19:07

Finally persuaded him to go to the doctors. Chest X-ray tomorrow.

He has never smoked, but has a long-standing cough, night sweats and a big weight loss.

Just want to talk about it.

I'll hold your hand & have lots of hugs.

(My OH 11 weeks ago went to the GPs with a chest infection that wouldn't clear up. After x-rays,CT scans, biopsy. He was found to have a chest tumor.
He had key hole surgery 3 weeks ago, to remove it.)

So i know what you are going through.Sad

I'm still in shock. You are brave, even being able to talk about it.

Hang on in there, & good luck to your DH for tomorrow.

Hopefully, it will be good news.

( You can PM me Smile)

EclecticShock · 16/05/2012 19:38

Thinking of you and wishing you both the best. It's good to talk about it. Can't imagine how worried you must be. Hugs.

EclecticShock · 16/05/2012 19:38

Well done on persuading him to get it checked out.

Staverton · 16/05/2012 19:39

Lung cancer is a possibility. But more likely is something like sarcoidosis, TB or chronic infection of some sort.
Good luck x

NiceAcorn · 16/05/2012 19:41

Thanks for the replies. To be honest, I also feel angry. I badgered him to go to the doctors and he wouldn't. Then, when he went (a while ago) he didn't tell them the whole story.

So, it's only today the doctor has got the whole picture. I am saying this on here as I don't want to be angry with him.

And I'm scared.

EclecticShock · 16/05/2012 19:49

I can imagine you're scared. He obviously is too so can see why stupidly he would withhold info. All you can do is accept you will probably both handle this differently and be compassionate towards eachother. Really sorry you're both going through this. Keep talking, better to get your feelings straight before talking to him.

muddymooncupsatdawn · 16/05/2012 19:52

I also, felt angry, with OH, for not being more forceful with the GPs, to get something done.

I was so scared,shocked & numb. ( still am a bit, it's been a rollercoaster few weeks!)

You just have live day to day. The worst part was the results, it was like the 2 week wait for DC pg. tests.

wishiwasonholiday · 16/05/2012 19:53

I go to see a specialist on 15th june about my asthma which is not responding to any of the treatments my gp has tried, I also have night Sweats but not weight loss, I have put loads of weight on. I'm terrified of the chest xray.

Hope he's ok op.

BehindLockNumberNine · 16/05/2012 19:54

Am here for handholding too.

It is entirely possible it is something else. Well done to dh for being brave enough to finally tell a GP the whole story. Don't be angry with him (I say this as the woman who ignored a large breast lump for over a month out of fear and made myself so worried I did not eat which caused weight loss which increased my suspician I had cancer.... Had full biopsy and was all clear)

Good luck for tomorrow to both of you xx

strawberrypicking · 16/05/2012 20:27

Sending you hugs, hope your oh is ok and it is not lung cancer or anything serious. Good luck for tomorow.x

MousyMouse · 16/05/2012 20:57

poor you.
wishing you both strength and best of luck for tomorrow.
hopefully it is something easily treatable and not more sinister.

MousyMouse · 16/05/2012 20:58

fwiw, my granddad had similar symptoms which turned out to be heart related and were treatable with medication.

BorisJohnsonsHair · 16/05/2012 21:01

Hope it goes well for you both tomorrow x

PrematurelyAirconditioned · 16/05/2012 21:02

Best of luck. There are many plausible alternative causes for his symptoms, most of them very treatable, and he's made that first big step.

EclecticShock · 16/05/2012 21:04

Good luck for tomorrow x

thegreylady · 16/05/2012 21:05

I have been suffering from persistent cough and night sweats too-twice treated for chest infections. Finally got so poorly that I was admitted to hospital-after blood tests and chest X-ray I have pneumonia which is nasty but treatable. I am home from hospital now.

NiceAcorn · 16/05/2012 21:06

Thanks all - we've had a bottle of wine & I am trying to ignore Dr Google! Will report back after x-ray. Thanks for all the comments, I really appreciate it.

OP posts:
thegreylady · 16/05/2012 21:06

All the very best for tomorrow.l-hope you get a speedy and reassuring result.

NiceAcorn · 17/05/2012 13:43

Chest X-ray revealed a "shape" which doctor thinks is pneumonia.

Never in a million years thought I'd be happy with a pneumonia diagnosis!

Thanks everyone for the handholding!

whattodoo · 17/05/2012 13:46

That must be such a relief. Hope he is soon fully better.

Staverton · 17/05/2012 19:56

That sounds good. Make sure they follow it to with a repeat X-ray in 6 weeks time to check its gone, they are the guidelines.

Ryoko · 18/05/2012 14:30

I've had a cough for over 20 years, long since given up going to the GPs about it or worrying about it.
