Hi,
I have a 3 weekly cycle with really heavy flooding on days 3/4.
Until now, I've been putting up with it or trying all sorts of methods of reducing the flow.

Sometimes, in order to delay my period, I've taken Norethisterone for up to 5 days (1 x 3 daily), however I've just read that you can take it to reduce flow.

Basically, I have some really big events coming up and I'm getting stressed trying to work out which I can delay. However, as I have such a short cycle, by delaying one period for one event, will mean I have it for another event and you really don't want to be shaking hands with this lovely old lady wondering whether you're leaking!!!

Can I use Norethisterone to just reduce the heavy flow on days 3 and 4 yet not actually delay the period and make it last longer? The events are not far between each other and so by delaying the period, I'd just have it for another event.

So if it's possible, can someone tell me when they take the tablets and how many etc? Thanks.

Sorry for such a weird post Grin

I've no idea maybe a pharmacist could advise you or see your Dr.

I take it sometimes - i hvae had years of wonky periods. Even had a period twice this month. I used to take N, and managed to get it down to one a day when i needed to reduce or stop the period. Even now i will take the odd tablet if i start bleeding. Works wonders. ALthough i have had a D&C in Aug to balance things out as i was bleeding for 3 months daily at one point (but they found a polyp in a 7cm hole!). SInce the surgery i have been very regular for the first time in years. Now this month like i say had two periods a week apart lasting 3-4 days. Not taking the Northesterone for now but it was the only tablet that would stop my periods. Try reduce your dose to see what you can get away with taking to reduce/stop them. But you shouldnt take them long term. I literally do a day or so if needed here and there. Actually going for a coil to be fitted today to see if that regulates me, if not specialist said Hysterectomy..im only 43! Good luck

Thanks Zara - so taking just one or 2 for the heavy days, should only reduce flow, not delay the rest of the period?

Depends on your body i guess. If my period starts when it shouldnt if i take one tablet that then stops it all together. I was told to take upto three a day but i sorted the dose myself, and it worked with just one tablet for me. I have had years of problems really with breakthrough bleeding so they are the only tabs that work for me but i would say just try the dose. Try reducing the dose maybe by one to start with to see what happens and so on to get the result you want. I think with me if i take just a small half it will give me breakthrough (need a liner) but if i take one full tab it stops it all together. (went to doc last night and have been sent for yet another scan to see why i have started bleeding again! Would fit coil in case i have current issues). Totally fed up!

Poor you zara - can't imagine how annoying regulalr breakthrough bleeding must be - at least mine is a set time every month - albeit, every 3 weeks.

Hope you get it sorted after having your next scan :)
