anyone got any words of wisdom to share? dh - normally the calmest and most level-headed person I know - is on his second anxiety attack. They are not acute like a panic attack, more a prolonged period - 4-5 days - of really bad anxiety. sleeps badly, no apetite. Last time he went to the docs who gave him a prescription for diazepam (valium). I feel pretty terrified tbh. He is so clearly unwell, but I am not sure what can be done. He can't pinpoint a source of stress. Does anyone know anything about this? Apart from obvious sources of stress are there other causes? any been on diazepam? Is it ok? or will he be worse on it than off it?

Anxiety and panic attacks can be caused by an underactive thyroid. Your Dh could do with a thyroid function test. A close friend of mine with was off work for six months with servere panic attacks. Doctors diagnosed post traumatic stress, due to being involved in a violent attack. However once she was diagnosed with underactive thyroid and put on appropriate medication for it, she lost the anxiety symptoms.

thanks cori - I'll tell him to mention that when he goes to the doc - it would be a huge relief as teh fact that there's no obvious stree-related cause is a bit worrying

hi
How is your dp after the ski trip? has he been to the drs again?
I have a drs apt tomorrow as i have been suffered from severe panic since november. have been goign to couselling and its not helping with couselling, after having extremely disturbed sleep for the past 3 weeks and feeling very low and exhausted, i'm going to see if it could be linked with depression and to change my tablets.
Not sure if this post makes sense at all :O
