Chicken pox or fleas?

My DS (3) has come out in red spots last night/this morning. He has around 20, a big cluster under his arm and then some down his side, on his hip and on his leg. He goes to preschool and I know chicken pox can be around at this time of year.

BUT, 2 weeks ago we had the house treated for fleas. Myself, DH and DS had been getting bitten, so we got some professionals in who sprayed all the carpets and we have had no bites at all since. I was getting loads of bites, but have had absolutely none since we had the house treated, same for DH.

How do I know if these spots are chicken pox or if the fleas are still about??

it sounds a bit like shingles if it is localised on one side. DS had chicken pox under 1 year old and then shingles at age 3 which was misdiagnosed as aczema due to shingles being rare at that age. Could you take him to the GP to get it confirmed?

eczema not aczema!!

If its shingles or chicken pox (you can't have shingles unless yo'uve already had CP - however mildly) you will know soon enough, as the spots will blister.

If its fleas, they won't blister.

Poor ds, either way, and poor you and dh recently - we had a bout with fleas a few months ago (new doggy), horrid!

If you look really closely at them you will see a tiny puncture in the middle if they are insect bites of any type (and some do blister). Chicken pox don't have puncture sites - but they are difficult to see so absence doesn't definitely mean chicken pox.

DS1 has chicken pox at mo.
they are fluid filled. they aren't clustered - over his face, chest, back and legs.
individual spots and look a little bit like blisters.

Within 24hrs, DS1 went from having about 8 to about 30 or 40 spots.
Have the number increased on your DS?
