Naproxin and codeine - should I feel THIS vague?

GP prescribed naproxin and codeine today for my backache, I've had no sleep for 3 nights adn was getting a bit desperate. I've had this backache before, I know what it is, it usually goes off after a week or two, so I wanted a quick fix, it's not been this bad before and I just can't function on no sleep.

GP wanted to give me sleeping tablets but I don't want them, so he said he'd give me strong painkilllers instead. He said to take the naproxin twice a day and the coodeine up to four times a day, I said I didn't want to take that much codeine as my back really only aches badly at night so he wanted me to take the codeine today 'as prescribed' adn then it would be ok to just take it last hing at night.

Well I took both tablets when I got home around 11 this morning, honestly withinh an hour I didn't know what planet I was on, I was really wooly-headed and felt like I'd taken a 'step back' from rreality. I didn't take this afternoon's dose, I am still feeling very vague, I left a candle burning ON THE COUCH when I took DD swimming, DH arrived home and found it. Shock I didn't dare cook dinner so we've had takeaway.

Is this normal? I thought it was the codeine but if its the naproxin which I'm supposed to take twice a day then I just can't take it, I can't be like this every day.

I really hope this makes sense, sorry if it doesn't, I'm really still not quite with it.

Codiene can make you feel really spaced out. What dose are you on?

aimingforthesky · 03/05/2012 20:53

I had a similar reaction to codeine. Spaced out and difficulty focussing on anything. Get some sleep and it should wear off. Try Naproxen on its own.

Its the codeine. It's a very common reaction to it.

I have the same - more so if I haven't eaten. Did you take it on an empty stomach? I always have something to eat 20 mins before taking it.

But yes, don't worry, it is normal. I try and avoid taking it, but if I have to, as long as I eat, I am ok.
